My thesis project will be made as a short animation combined with stop motion and shadow animation. This animation titled “PHANTASMA” is a story about an eight year old girl’s dreaming. One night, the girl has an uncanny dream while she is wrestling to synch her successful future with her lackluster reality. In it, she experiences a critical moment where she has to choose between the picture perfect ideal and the checkered real. In this story, the shadow is the symbol for dreams. While other people think that shadows are not salient in their lives, she prefers not to give up her shadow. Therefore, she has to gone through many difficulties, but finally, she reaches the imaginary world that is made up of light and shadow.
In this project, I would like to express that it is not only within "productive" daily life but also in the nocturnal realms and daylight reveries where one can truly find one's deeper life purpose.
