Intended for students with no prior exposure to computer programming, this course is recommended for all concentrations. Beginning with a discussion about how programming has evolved to its present form, students will gain an understanding
of the various applications of computer programming and the flexibility it allows for going beyond commercially available software products. Emphasis will be placed on solving creative problems. Topics will include understanding computer architecture, basic programming constructs, a survey of languages and their applications, procedural vs. object-oriented programming, graphics programming, and an introduction to the Processing programming language and environment. The course will consist of lectures and short weekly assignments.
