During the industrial revolution, the world was introduced to mass production. But nobody was concerned with the consequences of this change at that time. Today, we consume mass produced items everyday and have become so used to it that we have forgotten the importance of the original challenge.

Nowadays, the problem of mass production seems to be more pressing, as high tech production can duplicate such things as art work, music or even the human genome (cloning). Once we were mass product consumers, but now we seem to have become that mass product ourselves. As a result, we tend to lose our soul and self-identity, in order to make ourselves unique and different from each other.

My thesis concerns an animation which is based on the concept of the artificial versus the authentic, when the world is populated entirely by mechanical or robot beings, and everything inside that world is controlled and predictable. But what happens in that world if one robot finds one organic life-form which was not yet extinct on his planet? Will he be interested in this different species in his “human” habitat?
